"The thought of exams would make me physically ill."
Holly (19)
"Tell us a little bit about yourself!"
My name is Holly, I’m 19 yrs old and I love being able to care and help people as much as I can. My dream is to become a paediatric nurse!
"Did you feel like you needed some extra support and tuition to prepare you for your exams? "
Yes! I needed extra support as I really struggled with English and maths, and exams in general. The thought of exams would make me physically ill with anxiety. I lacked so much confidence and on top of that I struggle with dyslexia
"How did tuition help? If you feel it did, what were your results?"
Lisa made learning everything so much easier! She helped me learn in a way that I understood. She was always very calm with me when I wanted to cry because I couldn’t understand. But after 3 years in a row of failing my GCSE’s, Lisa finally helped me pass! I now have a Grade 4 in Maths and a Functional Skills English Level 2 qualification.
"What are your plans for the future now that you’ve passed?"
Because of Lisa’s help, I’m able to apply for med school as I finally have the results I needed. I can actually start training for my dream job!
"Is there anything you’d like to tell students who are worried about their GCSEs?"
If you are worried about GCSE’s it’s okay and completely normal! I would say to focus more on the work by just taking it a day at a time. Take baby steps with your work, then the exam will come naturally to you. If you are lucky enough to have Lisa as your teacher then you have absolutely nothing to worry about because she will guide you and support you along the way.

My name is Eva, I'm 16 (17 in 19 days!!)
I'm interested in horses and have loved them all my life. I'm now studying them ay college. I love riding, it gives me freedom and music, it's my way to escape reality. I have a dog called Lola who is a miniature schnauzer and an ex-racehorse who is thoroughbred called Seabiscuit.
"Did you feel like you needed some extra support and tuition to prepare you for your exams? "
I have struggled with school my whole life. I've never enjoyed learning and have always felt lost when it comes to testing my knowledge on things. I constantly have doubts in my head that I'm not good enough. I lacked a lot of confidence and I was very nervous for my GCSEs. I also suffer from ADHD and Autism which added to the mix of emotions.
"How did tuition help? If you feel it did, what were your results?"
Lisa made my learning fun and exciting, and delivered the lessons in a way that was suitable for my needs. She built up my confidence so so much and I will forever thank her for that. I would go into sessions confused, frustrated and doubtful about my knowledge, and come out feeling confident, positive and assured. I was predicted low grades but I came out with grades that I never thought I could achieve -- 2 to 3 grades higher than what I was predicted!
"What are your plans for the future now that you’ve passed?"
I am now studying what I love most in life, which is in the equine sector at Brooksby College, and I am loving it! I hope to go to the Royal Agricultural Uni when I finish college and go into studying equine physio and therapy.
"Is there anything you’d like to tell students who are worried about their GCSEs?"
Never doubt yourself because you can achieve amazing things!
